English-speaking. BZD 2:1 USD. Dry Dec–May. Cayes cost more than Cayo. BZE, then a water taxi.
Belize is the only English-speaking country on this site, and the one that prices like a small Caribbean island once you leave the mainland. Most trips land at Philip S. W. Goldson (BZE), then choose: water taxi to Caye Caulker or Ambergris Caye, or a westbound bus to San Ignacio for ruins and jungle lodges. Placencia and Hopkins are a third, slower coast. This hub is that fork plus daily costs. Named hotels are only properties already listed here.
Dry season is December–May. February–March is the clearest reef and firmest Cayo trails. Whale sharks at Gladden Spit start around the May full moon. June–November is wet; rain is often a short afternoon burst. September–October is hurricane peak and the cheapest lodge window. August sometimes brings a brief “mauger” dry spell on the cayes.
Caye Caulker is the budget island (dorms $20–40). Ambergris / San Pedro jumps to $50–100 budget rooms and $300+ resorts. Cayo town rooms $20–50; jungle lodges $150–600 often with meals. Mid-range planning across a mixed reef-and-ruins trip: $100–180 a day. Belize dollar is pegged 2:1 to USD; US cash is accepted everywhere.
Caye Caulker if you want a golf-cart island and a cheaper reef. Ambergris if you want more restaurants and dive boats. San Ignacio if the trip is Caracol, ATM Cave, and jungle. Placencia if you want a beach peninsula without the caye water taxi. Do not book a reef resort until you know which caye — the water taxi is cheap, the vibe is not the same.
