🇵🇦 Panama

Panama

Dollarized. Sleep in Casco from PTY. Pacific dry season Jan–Apr. Mid-range $70–130/day. Bocas and Boquete are different trips.

Most first trips land at Tocumen (PTY), ride 45–75 minutes into Casco Viejo, and decide the second base later: Bocas del Toro by air from Albrook, or Boquete via David. Panama City prices like a small Miami; Chiriquí and Bocas drop fast. This hub is the map — Canal day, Casco walk, island or highland — not a hotel brand list. Named hotels below already have pages on this site.

Best time (short version)

Pacific dry season is January–April (peak February–March). Semana Santa fills beaches and Casco. May–November brings afternoon storms and 20–30% lower hotel rates; September–October is the wettest Pacific window. Bocas often runs opposite: rain during the Pacific dry months, a drier spell around September–October. San Blas seas are calmest January–April.

Budget snapshot (2026 planning ranges)

Backpacker: about $35–55 a day (Casco hostels $12–22, fondas $3–5). Mid-range with a Casco boutique room, Uber, and one Canal or island day: $70–130. Luxury nights at Waldorf, Santa María, or overwater Bocas: $200–450+. Boquete rooms $40–80 beat the banking district. The country uses the US dollar — no exchange math.

Where to stay first

Casco Viejo if you want a walkable first night and rooftop skyline. Bocas if the trip is Caribbean water (Isla Colón for boats, Bastimentos for quiet). Boquete if you want coffee, quetzals, and 15–22°C nights. Do not book a Bocas bungalow until you know which island — water taxis are $2–5 but change the whole stay.
