Backpacker $21–48. Dry Nov–Apr. Land MGA, sleep Granada. León is hotter. Corn Islands are a flight.
Most first trips land at Managua (MGA), skip the capital at night, and sleep in Granada — courtyards, lake air, volcano day trips — then choose León (hotter, bigger churches, Cerro Negro) or San Juan del Sur (surf). Corn Islands are a La Costeña hop, not a bus. This hub is that order plus daily costs. Named hotels are only properties already listed here.
Pacific dry season is November–April. December–February is peak for Granada and San Juan del Sur. March–April is the hottest; León regularly tops 35°C. May–October afternoons storm; July often brings a short canícula. Corn Islands are clearer February–May. September–October are wettest and cheapest on the Pacific side.
Backpacker: about $21–48 a day (Granada dorms $10–15, comida corriente $2–4, chicken buses under $2). Mid-range colonial room and shuttles: $85–180. Luxury Mukul or island days: $150–490. Córdoba planning rate is about C$36–37 = $1; pay in córdobas. Corn Islands flights run $123–205 round trip — the usual budget spike.
Granada if you want a walkable first base 45–75 minutes from MGA. León if churches and volcano boarding matter more than lake views. San Juan del Sur if the trip is Pacific surf. Little Corn if you accept a flight and a boat. Do not chain Granada + León + Corn Islands in five nights.
