What the Airport Taxi Meter Should Charge (May 2026 fare, press report)
Press report on a regulator decision: in May 2026 the regulator Aresep raised the authorized airport-taxi sedan flag-drop and per-kilometre fare from ₡720 to ₡730, and microbuses from ₡710 to ₡730, according to the Tico Times (23 May 2026). We have not seen the Aresep resolution itself. Either way, ask the driver to run the meter; a flat "dollar price" quoted at the curb is the thing to question.
We no longer print a colón exchange rate because it moves weekly. The official source is the Banco Central de Costa Rica reference rate (bccr.fi.cr); check it the day you land, although most tourist businesses also price in US dollars. At the SIM kiosks, compare the data allowance, not the headline price.
